About RUST

Our Vision

Rutherford University of Science and Technology (RUST) is a private higher education provider [Ref: Article 30 of the constitution of Rwanda which indicate "Right to free choice of employment", and HEC Citizen's service charter, November 2023] founded on Christianity values with main objective is "Green Higher Education: Promoting robust modular workplace learning to reduce carbon dioxide emission worldwide". Root cause or original research or field research is a university intriguing concept. While Prof. Dr. MUNYANEZA Silas R. KAYIHURA, being inspired by the groundbreaking research of Ernest Rutherford, who is known for his pioneering studies of radioactivity and the atom, and family, established Rutherford University of Science and Technology in March 2012 after dropping out from Kabale University (Project Planning and Management) to spread quality education in science and technology across Africa and beyond, enrolling himself as a master's/PhD combined student in power systems engineering, which he mindfully dropped out of Carnegie Mellon University-Africa (School of 2018) as he self-coached and completed it in 2018 as a renewable energy engineer. He is again Professor in neurology and chief of cognitive and behavioral neurology at Rutherford Medical School. RUST is a leading education institution of higher learning genuinely interested in doing groundbreaking research, commonly known as primary or field research, recognized globally for excellence in science, technology, and innovation, to foster sustainable development in Africa and beyond. We are here to help Africans to change our minds and fight insanity by doing the right things (efficiency) in the right way (doing things right or effectiveness). Rutherford University of Science and Technology has to make sure that people worldwide, especially those coming from remote areas and financially left behind, have access to quality education and work via innovative ways of skills transfer via digital learning-aided tools while connecting them to the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR—the convergence of the physical, digital, and biological worlds). The vision is accomplished under virtual learning techniques supervised by university coaching and examination centers worldwide. The university and partners are unprecedentedly committed to intergenerational trauma healing programs at a global level. We created Rutherford Medical School as a faculty member of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHSC.), which embodies two main sub-faculties: Rutherford Digital Research Institute on Cancer (RDRIC) [Neuro-oncology: focusing on the management of brain and spinal tumors] and Rutherford Digital Hospital [a healthcare facility that aims to convert all medical information into computer data and utilizes information systems to store and retrieve it, with the intention of improving processes, decision-making, and automation] for community healthcare safety outreach, to support academic advancement for sustainable professionalism as key towards real development in Africa.

Our Mission

Silas, having been educated and close friend with the Late Rachelle Van Looveren (11 January 1942- 24th September 2025, Belgian Academic Advisor); RUST was established in March 2012. Rutherford University of Science and Technology (RUST) is a federal university of Africa and has a mission to educate, to innovate, to conduct research & creativity by teaching inquiry—not obedience, and to spread innovative education outreach worldwide, especially, fields such as engineering, education, economics, agriculture, medicine, architecture, science and technology at large for defining better socio-economic transformation of cooperation, not competition. Practically, RUST is dedicated to providing world-class education, fostering groundbreaking research, and promoting innovative outreach in science and technology to drive sustainable socio-economic transformation basing on high-quality, research-led education in science and technology, producing graduates who are critical thinkers, innovators, and ethical leaders, capable of addressing complex societal challenges while converting their acquired knowledge and skills into money. Micro-credentials or biometric-biodata development and management from the start of the program to the end make the university exceptional in the sustainable social economic transformation development journey. RUST also establishes a Research Institute on Cancer (RIC) focusing on 1) Basic, 2) Translational, and 3) Clinical Research. RIC works to advance cancer research and treatment through innovative approaches.

Our History

Founded on March 23, 2012, Rutherford University of Science and Technology (RUST) was established with a clear vision: to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in science and technology sectors across the region making emphasis on root field skills acquisition. From humble beginnings, RUST has grown into a vibrant academic community, continually expanding its programs, research capabilities, and global partnerships.

Over the years, we have celebrated numerous milestones, including the establishment of our cutting-edge research and knowledge labs, the launch of interdisciplinary programs, and the graduation of some of our alumni who are now making significant contributions in various fields worldwide. Our commitment to innovation and societal impact remains at the core of our institutional identity. To relieve cancer, among other treatment plans for brain and spinal tumors, we discovered another methodology herein we call "Communication Therapy," which aims to optimize the brainwave for brain control maximization (brain imaging standardization). This was proven positive, as it blocks environmentally generated neurotransmitting stress, equally amplifying the memory digits.
